Winner of the Jeune Chercheur prize : Congratulations to Dr Aline Frey !
This year, the Departmental prize for research in Provence rewarded Docteur Frey (Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory - LNC) with the 2020 Jeune Chercheur prize ! Her research project focuses on the influence of musical practice and choral singing on the development of cognitive functions, and on fundamental school learning. These results are promising for children with learning disabilities such as dyslexia or dysgraphia.
The initial selection of the Departmental Prize for Research has highlighted neuroscientific researchers this year : Chiara Bastiancich (post-doc in GLIOME team at INP) and Rosa Cossart (Head of the unity "Empreinte du développement sur l’hippocampe adulte" at INMED) were nominated in the Jeune Chercheur prize and Grand Prix categories!
Dr Raoul Belzeaux : twice rewarded for his research!
Highlighted in Nature Communications, the studies of Dr Raoul Belzeaux (Hôpitaux Universitaires de Marseille/INT) reveal the major role of the GPR56 receptor in the pathophysiology of depression and the response to antidepressants. These results provide a therapeutic potential in this pathology, which can have a severe prognosis and is still not fully understood today.
For this study, he received the 1rst Leo and Rachel Hendlisz Prize awarded by the Douglas Mental Health University Institute and the Pierre Deniker Foundation prize for his work on the mechanisms of psychiatric disorders.
CNRS Bronze medal : Congratulations to Dr Adrien Meguerditchian !
Bronze medallist of section 26 of the CNRS (Brain, Cognition, Behaviour), Adrien Meguerditchian (Cognitive Psychology Laboratory - LPC) is a specialist of the gestural origin of speaking and its hemispheric specialisation.
He is interested in the properties of primate modes of communication and their links with certain properties of human language. In particular, he questions the importance of gesture in communication systems and its implication in the evolution of language and the predominance of right-handedness.
Neuropain Therapeutics, startup coming from IBDM
At the head of the "Chronic Pain: Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms" team at Developmental Biology Institute of Marseille, the researcher Aziz Moqrich has identified the NPT-1 protein of interest in the transmission of painful body information.
Thanks to this discovery, he created the start-up Neuropain Therapeutics and has just raised €2.5 million to conduct regulatory pre-clinical studies on the alleviation of post-operative pain.
