Clinical session # 2: a dialogue on Parkinson's disease

Researchers and clinicians meet for this second clinical session, to discuss Parkinson's disease for an hour and a half.

Dialogue on Parkinson's disease, between fundamental research and clinical research

🛑 Caution: this event is in French

For this second clinical session, the doctoral program invites you to discuss the theme of Parkinson’s disease. On this occasion, two speakers will come and present their subjects of study to you. The first is Stephan GRIMALDI, for the clinical and applied research part, and the second is Sonia DI BISCEGLIE CABALLERO for the fundamental research part.

Their subjects are:

  • An overview of diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson’s Disease, by Stephan GRIMALDI (CHU La Timone in Marseille)
  • Contribution of external globus pallidus (GPe) neurons to Parkinson’s disease, by Sonia DI BISCEGLIE CABALLERO (LNC Marseille)

Curious ? Discover the presentation summary of Stephan GRIMALDI!

In this brief presentation, the pathophysiological basis of Parkinson’s disease will be discussed as well as the symptoms that are necessary for the clinician to make a diagnosis. The stages of the disease will be described while underlining the importance of an early diagnosis through the research and identification of biomarkers of neurodegeneration. Finally, the different treatments available for symptomatic management will be explained.

Researchers, clinicians, students, welcome everyone for this second session!

Proposed by NeuroMarseille, this event will last 1h30 and will allow you to listen to our speakers and ask them questions. Each 20-minute presentation will be followed by 10 minutes of questions, then the discussion will continue with a roundtable of approximately 30 minutes.

To participate, nothing could be simpler: register in the form below to receive the zoom link

📢 Warning: PhD students, remember to register on Ametice for your hours to be counted! 1h for participation, 4h for speakers.

Our speakers

Stephan GRIMALDI An overview of diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson’s Disease

Sonia DI BISCEGLIE CABALLERO Contribution of external globus pallidus (GPe) neurons to Parkinson’s disease

I have obtained my bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and a master’s degree in neurosciences at the Université Grenoble Alpes. Currently I am in my 3rd year of doctoral studies and I am working on the effects of optogenetic manipulations of the external globus pallidus (GPe) neurons on the motor deficits in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease in the Laboratoire de Neurosciences Cognitives (LNC) in Marseille, under the supervision of Abdel-Mouttalib Ougazzal.
