MOOC "Autour des neurones : focus sur la myéline"

Tuesday, February 4th, 2020 AMU launches its new MOOC on myelin!

Tuesday, February 4th, 2020, Aix-Marseille University launches its second MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) in neuroscience on the FUN platform.

Developed in collaboration with the INSERM and the CNRS, this course lasts 8 weeks and will focus on myelin. The estimated effort is 2 to 3 hours of work per week. The MOOC and the delivery of certificates are free of charge.

  • Who is it for?

This MOOC is primarily aimed at students in biological sciences at the end of bachelor’s or master’s level, doctoral students, engineers and researchers who want to learn more about myelin.

  • What topics will be discussed?

The functions of myelin, whether in the central or peripheral nervous system; its creation during development and its regulation in adults; the impact of aging on myelin; myelin-related diseases.

  • Are there any prerequisites?

It is necessary to know the basics of cell biology (concepts of cell, membrane…) and in particular of neurobiology (neuron, action potential…), as well as some basic chemistry (ions, proteins, lipids…). Some major concepts will be reviewed but, in general, this course is intended for people who have completed a scientific training at bachelor’s level.

An innovative format to learn everything about myelin

This course offers a variety of formats to make learning enjoyable and dynamic. You will find videos of experiments or concept presentations, interviews with doctors, corrected quizzes, additional documents to deepen some of the concepts, as well as discussion forums to help each other, stay motivated and learn even more!

Registration is open (and free) until April 11th, 2020 on the FUN platform.

Please note: This course is only available in French. English subtitles are available.
