Scholarships to go to thematic schools in 2023-24

Call presentation

Did you know that the NeuroSchool PhD program offers stipends for PhD students to participate in a thematic training school (summer, winter, spring… school )?

Maximum contribution of the NeuroSchool PhD program: 1000 €. This co-funding from NeuroSchool must represent at most 50% of the total budget.

Example : for a total budget of 1200 €, NeuroSchool can contribute up to 600 € and the lab the other 600€.

In exchange for this support, laureates agree to write a short text about what they’ve learnt at the thematic school, to be published on the NeuroMarseille website or social networks.

Application procedure

The candidate must send by email to the PhD program committee (neuroschool-phd-program-direction@univ-amu.fr):

  1. a motivation letter explaining what the thematic school will bring to his or her PhD, possibly comparing it with what the PhD program offers. In view of the increasing number of applications, we also ask applicants to specify whether they have applied for other funding and, if so, which ones and when are the results expected, or if not, why not (1 page maximum).
NEW : carbon footprint reduction : we recommend weighing up the advisability of taking a flight. Applicants should include a paragraph on the carbon impact of their mission and, if they are applying for a course that requires a flight, then they should show that similar courses have been sought and not found closer by.
  2. a provisional budget (see this model budget) specifying the amount requested from the PhD program and the sources of co-financing (1 page maximum). It is technically difficult for NeuroSchool and a laboratory to share mission fees (accommodation and travel costs) so even before you apply, please consult our administrator and your lab manager in order to prepare your budget and check eligibility.

Eligibility

This call is only open to AMU PhD students registered in the NeuroSchool PhD program.

A given student can only benefit from this funding once during his/her PhD.

Attention, this co-funding is to attend a TRAINING COURSE (thematic school, summer school… ) but NOT for a simple conference. For conferences, travel grants are listed here.

Deadline

This call is open continuously throughout the academic year, until the allocated yearly budget is spent.

However, this request must be made well in advance: allow at least 2 months for a response from the PhD program and formalities (registration, purchase of tickets…).

Example : for a summer school in June with a deadline for registration mid-March, you should apply mid-January at the latest!

Results

We are pleased to announce that our first laureate is Hugh TAKEMOTO from INMED, who will participate in the Paris Spring School on Optical Imaging and Electrophysiological Recording in Neuroscience in May 2024.

The call remains open until our budget has been spent.
