Doctoral contracts

At the end of M2, a student wishing to do a thesis may apply for a doctoral contract (= a research allowance, i.e. a 3-year salary) as part of the Aix-Marseille University Doctoral Contracts competition for the Doctoral School of Life and Health Sciences.

Please note that the terms and conditions for awarding these doctoral contracts have changed in 2019. You will find more information about this competition on the Doctoral School of Life and Health Sciences website. Each year, about 7-8 doctoral contracts are awarded to the best neuroscience students.

It is also possible to apply for competitions at other doctoral schools as an external candidate.

Warning

In order for a student to be able to apply to the competition for doctoral contracts at the Doctoral School of Life and Health Sciences, his/her future thesis supervisor must have an Habilitation to Direct Research (HDR) and be attached to neurosciences at the Doctoral School level.

Other funding

There are also industrial agreements for training through research (CIFRE grants).

In addition, other funding can be obtained directly by the research laboratories: if you are passionate about the work of a laboratory, contact it as soon as possible to seek funding together.

This information can also be found in the form of a video (password: neuro): Finding thesis funding and scientific job offers.

Check out sites like these:

- PhD student association Hippo’thèse
- Association Bernard Gregory/Intelli’Agence
- Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS)

A more complete list is available in our Useful Links section ("Funding and advice for the PhD").

You can sometimes sign up to receive email alerts. For example, the ITMO Neuroscience newsletter lists weekly job offers or calls for applications for funding.

Foreign students

NeuroSchool’s PhD program and the DOC2AMU program also offer some scholarships to foreign students who wish to come to Marseille to do their PhD.
