Exner’s area and manual dexterity: a TMS study in Human beings

In the litterature, the cortical Exner’s area is often considered as “the writing area”, containing the “graphomotor representations”. We will test the hypothesis that this area is more generally involved in manual dexterity, writing among others, but also precision grip, drawing, manipulation of small and fragile objects… We will compare several dexter tasks: precision grip, drawing and writing while stimulating (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) the Exner’s area to temporarily inactivate it. We will compare the behavioral effects of such inactivation on the performance in the different tasks.
